Biography
Dr. Yong Zhao is a research scientist at CSIRO Energy, Australia. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering in Qingdao University (2011) and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2014), respectively. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Gordon Wallace at University of Wollongong in 2019. From 2019 to 2022, Yong worked as a postdoctoral fellow at University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and University of Toronto. His research has been focused on developing catalysts and reaction systems for energy-efficient electrochemical conversion of small molecules such as H2O, CO2, N2 into value-added fuels and feedstock.
Since January of 2023, Dr. Zhao has started the electrocatalysis lab and been leading multiple projects at the CSIRO Energy Center. He is to develop innovative electrochemical carbon capture and conversion technologies that enable the efficient production of renewable carbon fuels from waste CO2. His research ranges from fundamental investigation such as catalyst and meachanism study to applied research and techno-economic evaluation, with the aim of translating the research outcome into practical application.
