Biography
Dr David Henry is a Chief Research Scientist at CSIRO based in Melbourne. He currently leads the Climate Smart Agriculture Group within the Agriculture & Food Business Unit. The Group is approximately 17 staff geographically spread across 5 states/capital cities and has an innovative focus on Climate Adaptation, and Sustainability Assessment and Metrics.
He has also been instrumental in leading the Digital Agriculture initiative for the past 5 years, including the development of the Digital Ag strategy, leadership of the Digi Ag Strategic Investment Portfolio, science innovation bringing together digital and domain knowhow, and has played a pivotal role in communications, science innovation and commercialisation initiatives.
His personal research interests have spanned pasture agronomy, animal nutrition and grazing systems, the application of proximal and remote sensing, livestock monitoring and control (virtual fencing), and how to capture value from new digital technologies such as sensors, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. He is currently very active in how to translate climate variability and climate change data into useful and actionable insights for both public and private use-cases.
His experience has taken him across the dairy, beef, sheep, broadacre cropping and mixed farming systems, and his work has National reach and global significance.
